This is the card that entire boxes of Pitch Black were cracked to find. Card 116/084 is the Special Illustration Rare of Mega Darkrai ex, illustrated by Akira Egawa in a cosmic-horror register — Darkrai rendered as an eye slowly opening in absolute darkness — that stands apart from anything else in the Mega Evolution era. It is, without question, the defining chase card of 2026.

ME05: Pitch Black released July 17, 2026 as the fifth Mega Evolution expansion, built entirely around Darkrai's identity as the Darkness-type Mythical Pokémon. Of its six Special Illustration Rares, this one sits at the top by a wide margin — the single most valuable card in the set and the reason the set has a collector market at all.
