Each booster pack contains 10 random cards, with every pack guaranteed to include at least one reverse holographic, holographic, or ultra-rare card. Packs also include 1 Basic Energy and 1 Pokémon TCG Live code card.

Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Pitch Black is the fifth expansion in the Mega Evolution Series (ME05), featuring six Mega Evolution ex led by mascot Mega Darkrai ex, alongside Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, Mega Excadrill ex, Mega Delphox ex, and Mega Slowbro ex. Four more Pokémon ex round out the Double Rare tier: Lurantis ex, Wailord ex, Rampardos ex, and Morpeko ex. The Akira Egawa Special Illustration Rare has been called the closest a Pokémon card has come to an eldritch abomination — the full Darkrai form reading as a giant eye opening in the dark — drawing comparisons to Egawa's Arceus and Giratina VSTAR from Crown Zenith, while 2007 Rise of Darkrai nostalgia pulls in both players and collectors.
