This MEP Black Star Promo is part of a series of Holofoil Full Art Illustration Rare-style cards depicting first partner Pokémon, released to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, with each card in the series bearing the Pokémon 30th Anniversary logo. Squirtle's artwork forms a combined illustration with the MEP Promotional Bulbasaur and Charmander — together representing the complete Kanto first partner trio. The illustration itself is loaded with Generation I nostalgia, featuring locations and elements pulled directly from the original games.
