1976 Topps #148 Walter Payton RC — the only recognized rookie card of "Sweetness." This is the only recognized rookie card of the running back they called Sweetness , and it remains the cornerstone vintage football card every serious Chicago Bears and NFL collector needs to own.

The Chicago Bears took Payton with the fourth overall pick of the 1975 NFL Draft out of Jackson State University. What followed was one of the greatest careers in football history. He finished his career as the all-time rushing leader with 16,726 yards, 3,838 carries, and 110 rushing touchdowns. This nine-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time NFL MVP (1977 and 1985) was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

The card comes from the 1976 Topps football set, a full-color issue with a clean vertical layout — on Payton's card, a posed sideline photo sits within a white border, with a green banner carrying the team name "Bears" and a smaller text area with his name and position, "Running Back."
